Collision and dent repair starts with pulling the damaged metal back toward its original shape, working from the outside of the dent inward so the panel doesn't stretch further than it has to. Once the shape is close, body filler goes on in thin layers and gets sanded back until the panel reads flat under a hand run across it, not just under a glance. The repaired section is primed next, which is also when a hidden crack or a spot that needs another pass shows up before paint goes on. Painting comes last, matched to the rest of the vehicle so the repair disappears into the original color rather than sitting next to it as a visibly different panel.
